The Dalmore has released an 18 year old Single Malt that has been designed to improve the cigar-pairing experience.
Cigar Malt Signature Reserve Aged 18 Years, which has an ABV of 46%, has an aroma that opens with chocolate orange, dried fig, and dark fruit balanced with subtle hints of aromatic sandalwood.
On the palate, the distillery said, forest berries, sticky dates, orange marmalade, dark chocolate, and warming spice culminate in a long, elegant finish of dark fruit, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
The new Single Malt is said to offerd a deeper exploration of multi-cask maturation through an assemblage of “five exceptional cask” finishes resulting is a richer, more complex whisky, designed to elevate the cigar pairing ritual.
Dr Kirstie McCallum, The Dalmore’s master whisky maker, explained: “A rich and robust Dalmore which beautifully partners with the cigar smoking occasion, bringing together The Dalmore’s signature Matusalem influence, with rich and decadent Sicilian Marsala, Cabernet Cauvignon and elegant Cabernet Franc.”
The spirit was first matured in American white oak ex‑Bourbon barrels, laying an “elegant foundation” of soft vanilla and honey. It was then enhanced through a considered combination of wine and Sherry casks.
Marsala casks introduced ginger warmth and spice; Cabernet Sauvignon barriques provided structure and refined tannins; Cabernet Franc barriques brought aromatic nuance and subtle complexity, and Matusalem Sherry casks imparted depth with layers of dried fruits and a nutty richness.
Together, the company said, these casks create a whisky of considered balance and structure, designed to remain expressive over time.
