Charity laws violated with Captain Tom Moore gin

Captain Tom Moore was the elderly man the whole nation fell in love with as he walked around his yard raising money for the NHS. By the time the 100-year-old WWII veteran finished his final lap, he had raised nearly £39 million, about £38,999,000 more than he had expected.

Unfortunately, according to an article broke by The Independent, charity laws have been violated and/or the spirit of the law violated when it comes to a ‘charity’ gin made in his honour.

So far, a £100 “Limited Edition Barrel Aged Gin” has been completely pulled from the market over confusion as to what “all profits” means, while the £35.95 bottle has been receiving some blowback from having only one pound per sale going to the Captain Tom Moore Foundation.

In addition, the Charity Commission has been looking into “reimbursements” paid out to firms run by the veteran’s daughter and a request from the Foundation to appoint the daughter as CEO on a six-figure salary, a move blocked by the Commission.
