Aldi launches summer spirit range

The UK’s leading discounter and fastest growing chain, Aldi, has announced its summer line-up in spirits.

This includes a limited edition gold leaf gin liqueur – part of its Infusionist range – that contains 23-carat gold leaf in a peach and elderflower flavoured gin, which will retail for £12.99. Aldi claims that this beats Marks & Spencer’s Glitter Globe Gin Liqueur which M&S launched this last December.

Gin liqueur is made from distilled gin and infused with flavourings and sweeteners such as fruit, confectionary, and sugar, meaning that its alcohol content is lower than gin’s required 37.5% ABV and its sugar content is higher

The story behind putting gold leaf into alcohol is the belief that it makes micro-cuts in the throat and stomach, allowing for a faster absorption of the alcohol. Today it is used for show.

Along with its Infusionist range, Aldi is releasing 14 spirits, which includes five flavoured gins, three flavoured gin liqueurs and three flavoured gins.
