Pearse Lyons Distillery seals sustainability accolade

Pearse Lyons Distillery, which producers spirits in the Republic of Ireland and USA, has achieved gold membership in a leading sustainability programme for a fifth consecutive year.

The business secured the highest membership in the Bord Bia Origin Green programme, which recognised its continued commitment to sustainability and measurable progress across its operations.

Gold membership is awarded to Origin Green members that have demonstrated “exceptional annual performance” across their sustainability targets. Gold is the highest and most prestigious standard in this programme.

According to the business, Pearse Lyons Distillery’s continued focus on sustainable raw materials, recycled and recyclable packaging, efficient use of resources, waste reduction, biodiversity and community engagement has contributed to the distillery maintaining Gold status five years in a row.

Origin Green is Ireland’s pioneering food and drink sustainability programme, bringing together the government, private sector and the complete supply chain, from farmers and food producers to foodservice, beverage and retail.

‘’Achieving this standard requires a focused commitment to sustainability across every stage of our processes, from field to fermenter, as we work toward our measurable targets.

“Being recognised at this level for the fifth consecutive year is a testament to how the team at Pearse Lyons Distillery have embraced the sustainability mindset,’’ said Conor Ryan, head of production operations.

Pearse Lyons Distillery said it has embedded sustainability across its operations frestoring the historic former St. James Church in the heart of Dublin’s Liberties and giving the building a new chapter as a working distillery, to using regenerative farming techniques to cultivate its own grain just 25 kilometres from the distillery.

It also upcycles bourbon barrels from its sister distillery Town Branch Distillery in Kentucky, sustainability is embedded throughout its processes.

“As a private, family-owned company with seven generations in the brewing and distilling industry, we have always believed that sustainable success comes from investing in the future.

“Achieving Origin Green Gold Membership certification once again is a testament to the passion and commitment of our team, who continue to challenge themselves to raise the bar year after year,” said Dr. Mark Lyons, president of Lyons Brewing & Distilling Co., and president and CEO of Alltech.

“The generations before us taught that true legacy is not something to preserve unchanged, but something to strengthen, evolve and pass on in even better shape,” he continued. “This recognition is an important milestone, but more importantly, it reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible growth and continuous progress in the years ahead.”
