A bourbon, bottled at 82.1% ABV, is set for release as part of Diageo’s Blade and Bow collection.
The spirit was originally laid into barrels to rest in the rickhouses at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Shively, Kentucky, in the spring of 1993.
This new cask strength release, bottled straight from the barrel at 164.2 proof, allows consumers to either enjoy the bourbon at full-strength or as they wish with water.
Nicole Austin, Diageo’s director of American whiskey liquid development, said: “What I find so compelling about the 30-Year-Old collection is that these aren’t two different whiskeys,” Austin said. “They’re the exact same blend, presented in two distinct ways.
“The Limited Release reflects the balance I was looking to achieve when we first developed the liquid, while Cask Strength allows enthusiasts to experience it in its undiluted form and explore that balance for themselves.
Together, they offer a fuller understanding of what makes this bourbon so remarkable, and how much the drinking experience can change without changing the whiskey itself.”
According to the Diageo the cask strength bourbon, which is limited to 1,200 bottles ,opens with aromas of citrus oils, dark berries, and warm baking spice, followed by fig, molasses, and old oak. While the palate delivers dark sugar, roasted nuts, ginger, and blackcurrant.
