Put a thimble on it

Hayman’s Distillery has found a way to create a lower-alcohol gin drink, while maintaining gin standards, allowing the gin to still be considered gin.

By concentrating the flavour, Hayman’s believes then that drinkers will use less gin, reducing the amount of alcohol in a drink.

To drive home this point, on bottles of Hayman’s Small Gin, a thimble is attached to be used as a measuring device.

Although a bottle of Small Gin is on 20cl, by using thimble measures, there are 40 servings in a bottle as opposed to 28 servings in a 70cl bottle of Hayman’s regular gin.

The actual alcohol content of Small Gin is similar to many other gins. While standards call for gin to be at least 37.5% ABV, Small Gin is 43% ABV.

Distiller Journal has to wonder how many people will stick to the thimble size serving. While laundry detergent comes now in concentrated form, many users still pour into their washing machines the same size amount as non-concentrated detergent.
