New Islay distillery Portintruan

Six months after breaking ground, Elixir Distilleries has announced that its new distillery, located on the Isle of Islay, will be called Portintruan.

According to Peatzeria, well known whisky-loving brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh – creators of The Whisky Exchange – are the owners.

It took three long years for planning permission to finally be approved. The new distillery will be situated just east of Port Ellen along the A846 road. This leads to Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries, making it one of the most important roads for whisky followers to travel.

Once completed, the Elixir Distillers Islay site will feature floor maltings capable of supplying more than 50 percent of the full one million litres-per-annum capacity of the distillery, on-site housing, a visitor centre and a multi-purpose educational facility.
