Gin Bothy toasts success

Scottish spirits producer, Gin Bothy, has been scooped a major accolade for its Raspberry Gin Liqueur, with it being awarded three stars at the 2024 Great Taste Awards.

Joining the ranks of their Gunshot Gin and Spiced Rum, the accolade marks the third three-star Great Taste Award received by the Angus distiller. The highest distinction, only 2% of products globally receive the title each year, with less than 150 three-star products in the UK. The achievement cements the brand as the Scottish spirits producer with the highest number of Great Taste awards.

Noting its “intense burst of raspberry flavour” and “elegant complexity,” the judges were impressed with the liqueur’s blend of hand-picked local Scottish raspberries and signature Bothy gin, highlighting the liqueur’s “vibrant and refreshing” character.

Additionally, sister brand Jam Bothy’s Whisky Marmalade has been awarded its first Great Taste award. Across the Bothy brand portfolio, several other products have been recognized with one and two-star awards in recent years, including Gin Bothy Original, Stirrup Cup and Amaretto Gins alongside Hipflask Sloe Bramble Liqueur.

The Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, recognise exceptional products from across the globe and are judged by a panel of over 500 experts, including food critics, chefs, and restaurateurs. Celebrating its thirtieth year of operations, the awards are a mark of outstanding quality and taste.

Founded by Kim Cameron in 2014, Gin Bothy uses traditional production methods to deliver its premium gin, hand-batching, bottling, and labelling of each of its spirits. Initially created as a by-product of jam production, using leftover fruit juices to infuse the gins, the brand has gone on to become and lead the charge for fruit-infused and Scottish gins like their raspberry liqueur.

‘Accidental gin-maker’, Kim Cameron, commented: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this recognition for our Raspberry Gin. This award is particularly special as the raspberry liqueur was one of the first fruit-infused gins we created nearly 10 years ago.

“From selecting the finest local raspberries to carefully infusing them with our signature gin, every step of our production process is a labour of love. By blending time-honoured techniques with the best local produce, we make sure every bottle is something special.”

Gearing up for their 10th anniversary later this year, the Gin Bothy has seen an exciting 12-month period, including a move to new Forfar premises to increase production capabilities, the launch of Jam and Butter Bothies, featuring in the 94th Oscar nominee’s goodie bags, and securing a deal with Morrisons to stock Hipflask Spirits across their Scottish stores.
