Ferrand Cognac introduces new packaging for its core expressions — 1840 Original Formula, Ambre, and Double Cask — celebrating the brand’s heritage and craftsmanship. The updated design will be available globally from March 2025.
Ferrand Cognac, established in 1989 by Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, is built on the legacy of the Ferrand family, who cultivated grapes and distilled cognac in Grande Champagne. Alexandre Gabriel has devoted over 30 years to preserving the craft and savoir-faire of cognac-making, with a focus on reviving forgotten techniques and embracing modern experimentation.
The new packaging features a wooden stopper symbolizing the aging process, a hammered glass bottle inspired by 19th-century copper pot stills (Ferrand even has its own dedicated cooper at the estate to create these custom stills), and labels reflecting Ferrand’s commitment to blending tradition and innovation. While the exterior has been refreshed, the exceptional quality of the cognac inside remains unchanged.Â
1840 Original Formula: Reviving the classic cognac of the 19th century, 1840 Original Formula was created with spirits historian David Wondrich to bring back the lively, flavourful cognac that fuelled the 19th-century cocktail craze. Its label is inspired by 19th-century architecture and celebrates the cocktail culture of the time. (45% ABV, SRP 57€ / £52, 750ml).Â
Ambre : Crafted from a rare blend of Ugni Blanc and Colombard grapes, Ambre highlights Ferrand’s dual role as both winegrowers and cognac makers. The Colombard grape, a forgotten variety, adds delicate floral notes, and the label features a grape leaf symbolizing the care and craftsmanship involved in growing exceptional grapes. The barrels depicted on the label underscore the importance of ageing and blending. (40% ABV, SRP 57€ / £50, 750ml).
Double Cask Réserve : The double maturation technique using ex-wine casks is followed by ageing in Pedro Ximenez casks. This product revives an old tradition and represents Ferrand’s expertise in aging, with the label nodding to Elie Ferrand VIII and the brand’s deep-rooted heritage. (42.3% ABV, SRP 85€ / £85, 750ml).Â
Ferrand Cognac continues to nurture its vineyards in the prized Grande Champagne terroir with ecologically sound practices, earning High Environmental Value certification. The brand’s focus on innovation has earned Ferrand Cognac over 300 industry awards and a devoted following across 50 countries.
