There is more to the story of the UK’s newest gin distillery than the glass bottle the gin comes in.
When Nick Malaczynki created Shivering Mountain Distillery in the Peak District, he had numerous goals in mind. He wanted to distill a gin which was smooth enough to drink straight or on the rocks. He wanted to create a distillery which supported the local community with jobs, giving young people a reason to stay in the area. He even wanted to distill a gin using local botanicals which made the gin reflect the mountain which the distillery is named after.
But, as Nick sets two bottles of gin in front of you, it is hard taking your eyes off of them. The dry gin comes in a stunning blueish bottle, the pink gin in a red, and inside each bottle is an actual glass copy of Shivering Mountain. With the dry gin bottle directly in front of the pink gin, and the morning sun shining from behind, it looks like sunrise surrounding Shivering Mountain.
In this episode of the Distillers Journal podcast, we’ll be talking with Nick and giving you the nuts and bolts of setting up a gin distillery.
